I was brought up with working-line GSD’s then moved on to Rottie’s thirty years ago. I have always been fascinated with the training world and have been committed to training my own dogs to an extremely good standard. In 2014 I started to follow & shadow some of the top trainers in the UK and then decided to train full time. I completed Training & Behaviour Academies and have been focusing on behavioural modification since 2019.
Working-line dogs are my niche along with aggression and reactivity cases. “The satisfaction of helping dogs through their issues and helping people enjoy ownership is massively satisfying.”
I am a true believer that the understanding of boundaries and the building of relationships with owners is everything.
Having three of my own dogs to assist me, I am lucky enough to take Khaleesi and Kai with me on jobs, who are both 7 year old Rottweilers, and Stumpy their 18 month old son – who act as stooges. I find it especially useful to be able to have the option of which dog to use depending on each situation.
With over 30 years of experience owning German Shepherds, it was my fifth GSD that really got me interested in the behavioural side of the dog world. Hemi had always been hard work, being a lockdown pup with very little socialisation, which led to him being nervous and reactive to both people and dogs. Through balanced training, he is now calm and neutral around other dogs, even to the extent of going on pack walks with multiple dogs.
After shadowing other trainers and completing dog training and behaviour academy’s, I am now concentrating on dog behaviour modification and finding the best solution for each individual dog and their owner, which is both fascinating and rewarding to me.
I now have an amazing young Rottweiler called Shelby, daughter of Dave’s Kai and Khaleesi. Shelby is now working alongside her parents and brother to help us in our work.
My passion for dog training started with my rescue GSD/Husky cross called Brutus, who came to me as a one-year-old dog with very little socialisation and a variety of behavioural issues. After a frustrating few months, I invested a lot of time in researching as much as I could about dog behaviour and learning ways in which I could train Brutus and change his way of behaving so we could enjoy living with him as a family.
Seeing his progress encouraged me to learn more. I began working in a rescue centre so that I could gain more experience and work with a variety of dogs and breeds who had a host of interesting behavioural problems. Once I started to help others with their dogs, I began to understand that doing behaviour work is as much about helping people to understand why their dogs are exhibiting certain behaviours, and how building the relationship between them and their dog goes such a long way to helping them live better lives together. This, to me, is the most rewarding part of my job.
My ethos is simple. Build relationships, set boundaries and learn to communicate effectively.
